Christo died on June 1, 2020.

What a man!  What a character!  In my mind he will keep on wrapping.   Bridges, domes, trees, entire cliffs.

I saw his spectacular Central Park installation in February 2005 and took a lot of pictures.  One was of three clowns dressed in garments whose colors were complementary to the bright orange of the fabric on display.

Found today on the internet

My picture, re-photographed from an old print

.

The clowns were part of Slava’s Snowshow, a Russian troup that happened to perform in New York at that time.  The picture I took had all three marching right in front of me.  I printed and framed the photograph several times, put it in photography shows and gave it away as presents to friends.  I will try to find the original in my collection on old-fashioned CDs.

If I only knew of him through pictures on the internet and newspaper articles, then I would feel less of a connection.  What was important — and that is a poignant fact today by contrast as we are holed up in our house in the Berkshires – was my physical presence in Central Park at that time:  the bright sun, the abrupt chill when stepping into the shade, the excitement on peoples’ faces, the rustle and chatter of people walking around.
