Bremen Town Musicians

Evidently an art installation of the popular German tale, Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten.  Archillect (@archillect), who posted this on twitter, failed to include a credit.  Since I have long forgotten what this story is about, I consulted Wikipedia:

“It tells the story of four aging domestic animals, who after a lifetime of hard work are neglected and mistreated by their former masters. Eventually, they decide to run away and become town musicians in the city of Bremen. Contrary to the story’s title the characters never arrive in Bremen, as they succeed in tricking and scaring off a band of robbers, capturing their spoils, and moving into their house.”

I had totally forgotten the part of them having been neglected and mistreated after a lifetime of work.  Unfortunately, in real life some animals are less lucky and less resourceful than their Bremen brethren.

Please go on the internet and type in “India Cow Garbage” and you will see many pictures like the one below.  I took some pictures myself when I was in India.  Cows are untouchable, but after a lifetime of service to their owners they are often abandoned on the street where they consume garbage.  Their stomachs fill with plastic causing pain and diseases, and they often die malnourished and dwindled to mere fur-covered skeletons.
