The Fountain Project II

.

Ever since I was a teenager I wanted to build a fountain.  The fountain was the grand idea of reconciling nature with human engineering, my little Versailles if you will.  I never got beyond the concept, as I’ve noted in a earlier blog, but, as close as I got to describing how I wanted to realize the project, I never bothered to spell out what the Fountain would look like if I had a go with it.

My visit to MOMA today showed me the product of someone who approached the design of a fountain from the opposite direction: he knew what it would look like, but he did not bother to look into the specifics of plumbing and what kind of cement to use.

There is still a chance that we both might succeed, but meanwhile it has become uncertain what we could mean by “success.”  I’m not even sure if he still wants to proceed.
