Amenities in Albufera

Albufera is a large beautiful wetland area close to Valencia, Spain that I talked about some time ago. As I visited the area recently with my wife and friends, waiting for the pre-paid boat ride, I had sun oil seeping in one of my eyes and needed to rinse it urgently. Fortunately there were amenities in a row of barracks nearby.

Even in the hurry that my condition commanded I was struck by the down-to-earth elegance of the washbasin (Fig. 1). A foot pedal-operated pump draws a liquid out of a plastic tank marked GASOLINA in big letters. Courageously I operated the pump despite the fair warning, and was greeted by a fine stream of clear water, which took care of my condition.

I admire the playfulness of the setup, which teases you but delivers in the end.
