1. I took a walk on one of the first days of this month. Only a few lumps of the last snow still lingered on the ground.  New Year’s is always a season of snow, but this time a few lumps must suffice.  I took an entire picture gallery of them, in different shapes, on different backgrounds, but this one will give you the general idea.

2. Berries had lost their turgor but held on to their crimson color.  There is just one that has given up.

3. In the middle of nowhere, a stake with a pink marker — someone was here first, claiming priority of sorts.  Without a rod of steel, without pink ribbon to go with it, I’m not equipped for making a counterclaim today.

4. A silent firework surprises me.  Nature celebrates with us even though it knows nothing about the Gregorian calendar.

5. Perfection versus imperfection of the eternal form of the circle, on display here side by side.  A latch symbolizes the attempt to communicate.
