My Art Featured in Robert Root-Bernstein’s Anthology

I’m excited and proud that some of my art (photographs, drawings, etchings, collages, Cornell-like boxes) is featured in a professional anthology published by Dr. Robert Root-Bernstein, titled “The Arts of Eminent Scientists.” The beautifully produced book has recently appeared at World Scientific Publishing Co, Singapore, and contains 55 chapters, each with an essay by Root-Bernstein and samples of the art. The essays are based on interviews he conducted or – for deceased scientists like Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Marie Curie – on relevant published material available. In this work he seeks to fortify his long-standing hypothesis that there is a close link between arts and science. “Well-roundedness, the polymathic ability to integrate diverse endeavors, proves a consistent, if overlooked creative behavior among top-notch scientists,” to quote from his introduction.
His short biography, which appears on the official website of Michigan State University, College of Natural Science, is reproduced here:
“Bob Root-Bernstein is a Professor of Physiology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, USA. He has degrees in Biochemistry and History of Science from Princeton University and was a Post-doctoral Fellow in Theories in Biology at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. A MacArthur Fellowship encouraged his multidisciplinary activities, especially research on scientific creativity and art-science interactions. He has written more than 40 book chapters, 150 peer-reviewed papers, 75 popular essays, and 4 books: DISCOVERING (1989); RETHINKING AIDS (1993) ; HONEY, MUD, MAGGOTS, AND OTHER MEDICAL MARVELS (1997); and SPARKS OF GENIUS (1999), the latter two with his wife, Michele Root-Bernstein. He is at work on two more books, one on artists and musicians as scientists and inventors and the other on eminent scientists as visual artists. He is on the editorial board of LEONARDO, an art-science journal, and has exhibited his artwork in a number of group shows of scientist-artists”
