The Interesting Questions About Dogs

The interesting thing about dogs is that they exist in so many different varieties. Some are so tiny they could be mere morsels in the food bowls of their large counterparts. The fact that they recognize each other as dogs even from the distance, out of reach for their noses, is a miracle. That brings up the question of how little kids learn what is a dog and what isn’t. It can’t be taught by enumeration. There has to be a dog gestalt that slowly builds up in these little brains, but what is this gestalt? Is it non-cat, non-rabbit? Is it the way they all walk? Is it the way they look into your eyes? Is it the way they pee? These are the open questions that cannot be overlooked if we attempt to think constructively about dogs.
