The Last Tweet

I posted this last of my tweets on October 31, 2022:

“Folks, it has been a good run. I joined 2009 and made many friends on-line, found unexpected connections. Twitter’s format lends itself to the aperçu, to the anecdotal, and this is why I liked it.  Five years ago, my Nobel Prize brought me many more followers, traffic increased and the range of conversations expanded. For 13 years it was part of my life.  I never imagined that a single person could step into our town square and befoul it and ruin it.

I have archived the contents of my account and just got the zip file as promised.  Sure enough, everything I tweeded is there, all 3100 of them.  I will exit within 24 hours. I’m unsure where to go next.  Please remember my web link franxfiction.com, where I continue to blog, and this is where I will announce what forum I might join.  Also, I want to remind you of my scientific work website joachimfranklab.org, which is still active as well.”

It feels a bit like a petite morte — without the allusion of the French to coitus — in that some part is no longer alive. But there is a surprising afterlife, since the archive contains all data, snippets, pictures, links and all, that allows you to recreate the twitter feed in its entirety over 13  years, up to the point of exit.

Today I see that the number of franxfiction page views shot up by 280%, to 167 — people who might want to know what’s on my mind now, or people who have never heard about franxfiction.com.

Well, one thing is for sure: the mental energy I spent tweeting will have to go somewhere, and franxfiction is the place where it will probably go for a while until I get my bearing.

To change the subject, here is my first attempt to use DALL-E2, which is an AI tool that everyone can use.

DALL-E2  creates, within seconds, a picture of a scene from a mere verbal description using its semantic database and the database of objects in the world along with their visual appearances.  (Yes, we are getting here into a creepy part of the future!).

I gave it the following description:

“Etching of breakfast with one dog and two Siamese cats a la Hogarth.”

Below are four attempts by DALL-E2 to fulfill my wish:

As to the origin of my request to the AI tool, my daughter’s family has one dog and two (non-Siamese) cats, and I always wanted to know how they would behave in a formal setting.
