Did the Wall Actually Fall?

I was in Dresden perhaps 5 years after the Wall disappeared. The place was like a ghost town, with old building being torn down and strange new stores — all-glass gas stations offering grocery items and clothing — popping up. Walking through the city I took pictures of old store fronts. Here the face of a man who spent his lifetime in the German Democratic Republic stares at me out of a frame. The world doesn’t make a lot of sense anymore, he seems to say.
