The Amazing Value of the Dollar

This is a true story, as everything, by the way, that has been written here.

We have a scale in the bathroom that shows weight in a fancy, electronic way. We’ve had it for four years, and now it ran out of battery power. A quick look with the skew driver revealed a dime-sized battery.

In CVS, the closest was a battery with an inscription that did not fit what I was looking for, and sold for $5.65. I went on the internet, and found this deal: for $2.14, I could get a pack of 5 batteries of the right kind, with free shipping. This sounded too good to be true but I filled out the form and the credit card info.

When the shipment had not arrived for 10 days I began to panic. I might have been the vicim of a phishing operation, trying to get to my confidential information.

The next day after that, the shipment arrived in a little brown envelope. I put one of the batteries into the scale, and now have enough left over to cover the next 20 years.

It made me think I had slipped into another century where 20 cents would get you a good steak. I will look out for other deals, and let you know.
