The word for horse in Greek has the literal meaning “Illogical.” I have searched the internet for the etymology of this name but found no answer. This name is illogical in itself, on the next level, since there is no possible reason to call a horse “illogical” except from the point of view of a systematic classification in which every creature has its place and the horse is found to be an extreme outlier. Now in Greece the donkey has a prominent place and it might have been used for millennia as the standard for an animal that helps to do hard work and to transport things from one place to the other. So perhaps the horse has always been the oddity in this part of the world.
