From microscopic to macroscopic

Colleagues of mine whom I invited to come to Stockholm presented me with this exquisite gift.  It represnts a different direction of viewing the world from the one I was familiar with.

I appreciate the empathy expressed in this deed: they all recognize what they would do if in my skin — do things for once that are are different in a radical way.

The telescope is of a folded design, with a focal length much larger than its physical length.  It has the coordinates of thousands of stars and can locate them with its computerized gear.

To set it up, we propped it up in the living room and directed it at a branch at the very top of a spruce tree in our backyard in Alford.

I cannot wait till it’s spring.
